Vocational Training

The vocational training program trains and assists unemployed and underemployed women  community members to develop skills and find gainful employment.

Many residents of Chittoor District lack the skills needed to be successful in the job market. There are many residents who have not completed high school and do not have the resources to obtain vocational training to be competitive in the job market. Some older adults also need to update their skills in areas such as computers and English that are necessary in the modern Indian economy. Many women face additional social barriers to working outside the community and need to generate income at home.

The HEARDS Project meets this need by providing courses in a number of areas such as tailoring, embroidery, sari painting, sisal products making, English language, computers and office administration. The training also gives students confidence and exposure to opportunities they would not have realized were available to them.  The women of the slum/village have also used their skills to work from home.
