COVID-19 RELIEF ACTIVITIES

Covid 19 relief activities during the lockdown

This has been a difficult time for all of us, but has become a matter of daily survival with an unsure of the next meal for lakhs of people in every nook and corner of India. The working-class family is typically in debt with years of impoverishment from before and eats what they earn each day. Thus, the lockdown has put everyone who has been part of the unorganized sector, in vulnerable positions.

The ongoing crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic has badly affected the community of women and girls in our target villages. The community is losing their business and finding it difficult to put food on the table for their families. The women have reached out to us talking about their despair in these difficult times. The Government of India has imposed a lockdown from March 21 till July 31.  The community is worried that this would result in them losing their business further and relying on their meager savings to go through the day.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown in India, people all over our target villages are facing hardships. COVID-19 has not just evoked fear but has also caused depression, anxiety, and hunger affecting the social fabric of the community. Many women group members and their children and families are facing challenges to fulfill their basic needs; most of them are daily wage earners, who have no means of income to feed their children.

A second wave beginning in March 2021 was much larger than the first, with shortages of vaccines, hospital beds, oxygen cylinders, and other medicines in parts of the countryBy late April, India led the world in new and active cases. On 30 April 2021, India became the first country to report over 400,000 new cases in a 24-hour period.

Primarily we the Board members of HEARDS express our deep sense of gratitude to all our donors on behalf of our target villages community and they are always indebted to you for your timely intervention to tackle their social problem and ensure a just society for all.

We have implemented the following activities as emergency Relief during the Covid-19 outbreak both in Wave I & Wave II:

  • Awareness to the community on COVID-19 in target villages of Chittoor District.
  • Importance of SMS (Sanitisation, Mask Wearing, and Social Distance).
  • Stitching the disposable and reusable facemasks by our women Self Help Group members for distribution to the public.
  • Emergency Relief by means of distribution of dry rations for 350 families and Bridge Support for Livelihood for 40 women in Chittoor District.
