WATER SANITATION AND HYGIENE (WASH)

HEARDS since inception undertaking awareness generation programs on water sanitation health and hygiene various blocks of Chittoor District. Promotionally and in terms of physical implementation, the Society has accomplished various schemes on the above aspects, particularly with regard to sustainable drinking water development through different rain water harvesting innovations among which roof water harvesting stands at the top. Alternative schemes for drinking water along with technology on safe drinking water through installation of water filter plants etc. have been successfully promoted and popularized in the target area. HEARDS has made it mandatory that every house assisted by it should have proper toilet facility. Under different schemes the Society sees to it that there are hygienic toilets in all the families associating with it by way of direct or indirect support.  The objective is to sensitize / streamline the community for consumption of safe drinking water, adoption of better sanitary practices focus on Menstrual Hygiene and Management and to bring behavioral changes in the community. Water and Sanitation are two important components that are not being seen as an end but as a means of benefit with the following objectives and activities.

OBJECTIVES

  • To bring improvement in the general quality of life in the rural areas by promoting cleanliness, hygiene and arresting open defecation.
  • This helps girls stay in school.
  • Protects women who otherwise have to travel long distances to secluded areas to meet their needs, and improves community well-being by reducing diseases.
  • To accelerate sanitation coverage in rural areas.
  • To motivate communities to adopt sustainable sanitation practices through awareness creation and health education.
  • To encourage cost-effective and appropriate technologies for ecologically safe and sustainable IHHL with the support of RWSS.
  • To focus on solid and liquid waste management systems for overall cleanliness in the rural areas.
  • To sensitize the community on maintenance of WASH structures.
  • To educate and empower the women on WASH.

ACTIVITIES

  • We building accessible sanitation facilities in schools and communities.
  • Has installed bore wells in 10 different blocks of Chittoor District in order to provide safe drinking water.
  • Sanitation for dignified human living – Constructed 100 Toilets in urban slums and villages in Chittoor District in order to prevent open defecation.
  • Conducting of survey and analyzing data.
